In the past four years that we have been coming to Bahia de los Suenos we have never seen so much wildlife. We have renamed our casita, now known as the Wild Kingdom. Of course, we have always seen geckos here, although they are not cute like the Geico gecko. They do seem to stay out of your way, but they creep me out nonetheless. We mostly see them crawling on the walls and ceilings. They also make this weird clicking noise, making their hidden presence known. Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I don’t do good with “creatures”. Over the course of the past 2 weeks, we have seen a bob cat across the driveway, 3 scorpions (which we killed) in our casita, 1 mouse (which we caught in the trap, thanks to Skippy peanut butter) in our casita and 2 raccoons on our front lawn.
Of all the creatures, the mouse freaked me out the most. It brought me to complete tears and hysterics one night. I have to share the story. Scott was out and about getting things ready to go fishing early the next morning. I was watching t.v. in the living room and saw the mouse scurry across the room. For the next 45 minutes I continued to watch him run about the room, in . Once Scott got home he assured me that the mouse ran under the fridge, but I saw him again moments later. I finally had to call it a night. We rolled towels and put them on the floor at each door so that the mouse could not enter our rooms. Scott left to fish that morning about 4:00. About 30 minutes after he left I heard the mouse again. I could not sleep knowing that the mouse was in our bedroom, so as soon as I saw the mouse run across the room, I grabbed Blake (who was still sleeping) and made a mad dash for the door. We then went outside and sat, the sun was not even up yet. Once Gavin woke up, we went to the restaurant for breakfast and hung out for a few hours. I finally went back in the room about 1:00pm, Gavin desperately needed a nap.
I am safe now that we caught the mouse, but I know there are more, as we are surrounded by fields. As long as they stay out of sight, they will be out of mind.
Update: I forgot to mention the huge cockroach I found and killed the first morning here. Since my post, we had a snake slithering on our front porch. It was rather small, but we still got one of the workers to kill it.

I would have freaked too! I think the scorpions are equally as scary. I hope they leave you alone and you stay safe and sound in your casita.
